About the Ninth & Jefferson Building
This 14-story, 440,000 square foot building signals the gateway to the
Harborview Medical Center and was developed by Wright Runstad & Company.
Positioned on the easterly crest of First Hill, located between Ninth Avenue
and Terry Avenues on the west and east and James and Jefferson to the north
and south, it provides medical office space for Harborview’s expansion of
outpatient clinics. In addition, the Ninth & Jefferson Building also houses
associated agencies of King County and the University of Washington. The
building’s parking garage and expansive loading dock serve the building and
the hospital. The front entry of the building is accessible from Jefferson
Street and faces Ninth Avenue.
The pedestrian scaled podium and the set back of the lobby were designed to
respect and complement the existing campus buildings. The two story lobby
space is separated by a vestibule area, allowing 24/7 access of the parking
garage, while providing secure after-hours access to the main tower. The
lower three floors of the building house specialty high-end labs and clinics,
such as the King County Medical Examiner’s office and King County Mental
Health Court. Floors four through fourteen of the building make-up the tower
portion of the structure, housing various clinics and offices.
The building’s exterior is a combination of classic “Harborview” brick at the
base, punched window openings and Giallo granite columns at street level.
A glass curtain wall along with metal panels, metal grilles and granite are
woven together to enclose the tower, complimenting the entire Harborview
campus.
The Ninth & Jefferson Building has been designed to Silver LEED standards,
providing for an efficient work environment that meets strict energy design
guidelines and codes, as well as implementing best practices in sustainable
operations, from “green” cleaning standards to a building-wide recycling
program.
The Ninth & Jefferson Building is truly a state-of-the-art facility designed
and constructed to last for many decades.
